The Blessing of Listening! October 11, 2026

“He replied, ‘Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.’”

Today’s Word

In today's Gospel reading for October 10, a woman in the crowd calls out to bless Jesus’ mother. It was a well-meaning compliment, celebrating the family line of a great teacher. But Jesus pivots her focus to something far more universal and accessible to everyone. He shifts the definition of "blessed" from a biological privilege to a spiritual practice: hearing God’s Word and putting it into action.

When we transition from passive listeners to active doers of God's Word, we align ourselves with His kingdom. We no longer build our lives on shifting sands, but on an immovable, blessed foundation.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for speaking directly to my heart through Your Word. Forgive me for the times I listen out of routine rather than a genuine desire to change. Today, give me an open heart to hear You clearly and the courage to obey what You reveal. Let my actions speak of Your love, grace, and truth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
