Throw Your Pride! September 17, 2026

“Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.”
1 Corinthians 10:12
Today’s Word
It is easy to look at the major moral failures or spiritual slip-ups of others and think, “I would never do that.” We often assume that because we have walked with God for a long time, attend church regularly, or have good habits, we are safe from falling.
But Paul gives the Corinthian church a stern history lesson in this chapter. He reminds them of the Israelites in the wilderness. They had incredible spiritual privileges—they saw the Red Sea part, ate miraculous manna, and were led by a pillar of cloud. Yet, despite all those blessings, many of them fell into temptation and grumbling.
Paul’s warning is clear: pride is the ultimate blind spot. The moment we think we are spiritually untouchable is the exact moment we become the most vulnerable. When we rely on our own willpower, experience, or self-righteousness, we stop actively looking out for danger.
True spiritual safety does not come from thinking we are too strong to fall. It comes from knowing we are weak enough to slip, which drives us to hold tightly to Jesus every single day.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I have been prideful or overconfident in my own strength. Keep my heart humble. Help me to stay watchful and to rely completely on Your grace and the power of the Holy Spirit to keep my footing today. Amen.
