Living More! September 18, 2026

“Labor not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.”
Proverbs 23:4
Today’s Word
In a world that constantly tells us to hustle, grind, and accumulate more, this verse drops a radical truth: your worth is not measured by your wealth. It is incredibly easy to fall into the trap of thinking, "If I just gain a little more, I will finally feel secure and happy." But human ambition is often a moving target; the moment we reach one financial milestone, we immediately eye the next.
King Solomon, who wrote these words, was one of the wealthiest men to ever live. He knew firsthand that chasing riches is exhausting and ultimately empty. When the verse tells us to "cease from thine own wisdom," it is warning us against relying on our own limited, worldly logic. Our human logic says, "More possessions equal more safety." God’s wisdom says, "True security is found in Me alone."
When we wear ourselves out to get rich, we sacrifice the very things that worldly success cannot buy: our health, our peace of mind, our relationships, and our time with God. True wisdom is knowing when to say, "I have enough." It is choosing to rest and trust that God will provide for our needs.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I have let the pursuit of success consume my energy and peace. Help me to recognize when to step back and rest. Give me the wisdom to know when I have enough, and teach my heart to find its true security and satisfaction in You alone. Amen.
