Staying Close to God July 21, 2025

"For they will turn your children away from following me to serve other gods, and the Lord’s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you. This is what you are to do to them: Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones, cut down their Asherah poles and burn their idols in the fire."

Deuteronomy 7:4–5

Today’s Word

God gave His people gentle but firm guidance to protect their hearts and future generations. He knew how easily the culture around them could lead them astray. His call to remove idols wasn’t just about obedience—it was about love and protection.

Even today, there are subtle things that pull us away from God. He lovingly invites us to examine what’s in our lives and remove anything that hinders our closeness with Him.

Prayer

Lord, help me to recognize anything that draws me away from You. Give me wisdom and courage to let go of distractions, and keep my heart anchored in Your truth. I want to stay close to You always. Amen.
