Making Room for Grace! September 13, 2026

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”
James 1:19
Today’s Word
We live in a world that values instant reactions. Social media encourages us to comment immediately, and our emotions often demand that we defend ourselves the second we feel misunderstood. But the Apostle James offers a counter-cultural blueprint for peace: Listen fast, speak slow, and cool down.
When we invert this order—becoming quick to speak and slow to listen—anger takes the wheel. True spiritual maturity isn't about never feeling frustrated; it's about what we do with that frustration. When you choose to speak life over your reactions, you reclaim control from your impulses. You give the Holy Spirit a brief window of time to filter your thoughts, allowing you to respond with grace instead of reacting with regret.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your immense patience with me. Forgive me for the moments I have let my temper speak before my wisdom could catch up. Today, I ask for the grace to be a better listener. Help me to truly hear the hearts of the people around me, rather than just waiting for my turn to talk. Calm my spirit when I feel anger rising, and let my responses bring peace to tense situations. In Jesus' name, Amen.
