“But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish… Then the Lord sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up.”
Jonah 1:3–4
Today’s Word
Jonah chose distance over obedience. He knew God’s direction—but fear, reluctance, and personal preference led him to run in the opposite direction. Yet even in Jonah’s running, God did not abandon him. Instead, God sent a storm—not to punish him, but to redirect him.
Sometimes the storms we face are not signs of God’s anger but expressions of His mercy. They shake us awake before we drift too far. They remind us that God loves us too much to let us settle in a place He never called us to stay.
The storm was not Jonah’s end. It was the moment God used to bring him back to purpose.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for loving me even when I run or resist Your call. If I’m heading in the wrong direction, gently redirect me. Use every storm not to break me, but to bring me back to Your will. Help me trust Your plans over my fears. Amen.
