Dr. Tammie Gainey, Founder
PhD, FNP-BC, PHMP-BC
Tammie Gainey, PhD, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC is a Nurse Practitioner licensed by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Dr. Gainey completed her undergraduate training at UNC Charlotte and received a Master of Science in Nursing from Kennesaw State University. After several years of providing psychiatric care in rural, under-served areas, Dr. Gainey attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia and received a Post Master’s Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She has received dual training and is board certified in family practice and psychiatry. Dr. Gainey completed her doctorate studies at the University of Missouri in Columbia. Her research focused on pharmacogenetics and mental health.
Prior to founding Sandhills Behavioral Care, Dr. Gainey practiced psychiatry and family practice in Greenville, S.C. She also served on the faculty at the University of South Carolina Upstate Campus in Spartanburg, S.C. She has been actively teaching and mentoring nursing students since 2008. Dr. Gainey’s research has been published in the Journal of Nursing Education, and she has given national presentations on psychiatric and education topics. She is an active member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and the Neuroscience Education Institute.

Dr. Gainey provides care to patients with a variety of psychiatric disorders across the lifespan. She has more than 16 years of experience in a variety of psychiatric settings including partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, community health centers, correctional facilities, private practice and inpatient settings. Dr. Gainey uses a holistic treatment approach that includes medication management, cognitive behavioral therapy, supportive therapy and psycho-education. She is particularly interested in the role of genetics in psychiatry. Dr. Gainey collaborates with her clients to discover personal treatment goals and formulate a mutually-agreed upon strategy for treatment.
Dr. Gainey lives with her husband and three sons in Rockingham, NC. She enjoys spending time with her family. You might see her at the ballpark with her three boys!
Dr. Bryce Futrell
DNP, AGNP-C
H. Bryce Futrell was born and raised in Rockingham, NC. Dr. Futrell received her undergraduate degree at UNC-Wilmington and received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from East Carolina University.
She is a Nurse Practitioner licensed by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Dr. Futrell is a certified dementia provider with the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.
Dr. Futrell has a particular interest in caring for the under-served and the elderly. She has experience in working with adolescents, adults, and the elderly population. She believes in providing the best care available to all patients. Dr. Futrell is passionate about working with her home community and giving back to those in Richmond County.
Dr. Futrell lives in Rockingham with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys spending time with her family and any excuse to head to the beach.

Dr. Steven Millen
DNP, ANP-BC
Steven Millen completed his undergraduate nursing studies at Richmond Community College and UNC-Greensboro. Afterwards, he graduated from UNC-Greensboro with his MSN with a concentration in Adult and Gerontological Nurse Practitioner in 2006.
Dr. Millen has practiced in Primary Care locally for the last 14 years caring for patients ages 13 years old and older. He has a special interest in Psych and Mental Health conditions with some post Master's education in Psych and Mental Health, along with Primary Care of the older patient. Most recently he graduated from UNC-Greensboro in 2020 with his Doctor of Nursing Practice where his doctoral project focused on depression in the primary care adult population.
His future plans include returning to college and receive his Post-Graduate Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. He presently holds his North Carolina license as an Adult Nurse Practitioner and holds a board certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner.
Dr. Millen was born and raised in Richmond County and enjoys the fact that he can give back to his community. He is also a Pastor of a local church, husband, and father to 5 children. He enjoys spending time with my family along with friends and church family as well.
