“Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.”
Matthew 18:27
Today’s Word
This verse reveals the heart of God’s mercy. The master’s compassion toward his servant mirrors how God graciously forgives us, even when our debt of sin seems impossible to repay. Forgiveness flows from compassion—it is not earned but freely given out of love. Just as the servant was released, we too are called to release others from the weight of offense and bitterness. When we extend grace, we reflect God’s character and experience the freedom that forgiveness brings. His mercy not only restores us but teaches us to be merciful toward others.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your boundless compassion and forgiveness. Remind me of the mercy You’ve shown, that I may extend the same to others. Free my heart from resentment, and fill me with grace that reflects Your love. Help me to walk in the freedom of forgiveness, showing kindness and compassion as You have shown to me. Amen.
