“Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him.”
Matthew 20:20–21
Today’s Word
When the mother of James and John asked for her sons to sit beside Jesus in His kingdom, her desire was shaped by human ambition. But Jesus gently reminded His followers that true greatness comes from humility and service. In God’s kingdom, honor is not about position but about compassion and surrender. When we choose to serve rather than to be served, we reflect the very heart of Christ—the One who came not to be exalted but to give His life for others.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, teach me the beauty of humility. Free me from the desire for recognition, and fill me with a servant’s heart. Help me to love as You love, to serve as You served, and to find joy in honoring others above myself. May my life mirror Your example of grace and selfless love. Amen.
