“Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.” When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” God said, “Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
Exodus 3:1-5
Today’s Word
In Exodus 3:1-5, God calls Moses from the burning bush, instructing him to remove his sandals because he is standing on holy ground. This passage reminds us that God’s presence transforms ordinary moments into sacred encounters. The ground beneath us becomes hallowed when we recognize Him in our daily lives, and our hearts are invited into reverence, obedience, and awe.
Just as Moses was told to step closer yet respect the holiness before him, we too are called to approach God with humility, attentive to His voice. God meets us where we are, yet His presence demands our full respect and surrender. The ordinary can become extraordinary when we pause, listen, and acknowledge Him.
This story encourages us to notice God’s activity in our lives, even in moments that seem routine or mundane. Removing our “sandals”—letting go of distractions, pride, or self-reliance—prepares us to hear His call and follow His direction. Our spiritual journey begins with awareness, reverence, and readiness to respond.
Prayer
Lord, help me recognize Your presence in my life today. Teach me to step into Your holiness with humility and awe, to lay aside distractions, and to listen for Your voice. May I approach You with reverence, obeying Your call with a willing heart. Transform my ordinary moments into encounters with You, and guide my steps on the path You have set. Amen.
