“They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek is Apollyon (that is, Destroyer).”
Revelation 9:11
Today’s Word
This verse paints a striking picture of judgment and spiritual warfare. The name Abaddon—meaning Destroyer—represents the power of destruction that opposes God’s purposes. Yet even amid this chaos, the sovereignty of God remains absolute.
Revelation reminds us that darkness may seem powerful, but it is still subject to God’s authority. The forces of evil cannot overrule His divine plan. In times when destruction or despair feel close, remember that God’s hand still reigns over every abyss.
Prayer
Lord, when I see destruction and despair around me, remind me that You still rule over all things. Strengthen my faith when the world feels uncertain, and help me trust Your power even over the darkest places. Let Your peace rule my heart, knowing that You are greater than any force that seeks to destroy. Amen.
