The Wisdom to Discern! July 26, 2026

Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?

1 Kings 3:9

Today’s Word

When God invited Solomon to ask for anything he desired, Solomon chose wisdom. He understood that leading God's people was far beyond his own ability. Instead of asking for wealth, fame, or power, he asked for an understanding heart—a heart that could discern right from wrong and lead according to God's will.

Like Solomon, we face decisions every day that require more than human knowledge. We need God's wisdom to navigate relationships, make wise choices, overcome temptation, and fulfill the responsibilities He has entrusted to us. The good news is that God still delights in giving wisdom to those who ask Him with humble and sincere hearts.

An understanding heart is more than intelligence; it is a heart that listens to God. It seeks His Word before making decisions, trusts His direction over personal feelings, and desires to honor Him above all else. When we surrender our plans to the Lord, He faithfully guides our steps and gives us discernment to recognize what is true and pleasing in His sight.

Today, don't rely solely on your own understanding. Bring every decision before God and ask Him to shape your heart with His wisdom. A life directed by God's wisdom will always lead to His peace and His purpose.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being the source of all wisdom. Just as Solomon asked for an understanding heart, I ask You to fill me with Your wisdom and discernment today. Help me to seek Your will above my own and to make decisions that honor You. Teach me to listen to Your voice, trust Your guidance, and walk in obedience to Your Word. May my heart reflect Your love, humility, and truth in everything I do. In Jesus' name, Amen.
